About This Project

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

This contract was for the development of Aasleagh Cottages, which are fishing cottages overlooking Killary Harbour and surrounded by the Connemara Mountains, along the western seafront of Ireland.

The main elements of the building were demolished, with only the front and gable facades of the original building retained. These retained facades required intricate renovation works in order to keep their character and to suit the existing landscape.

As is the norm for all works undertaken by Kenaidan in Ireland and abroad, a very high standard of finish was achieved, in accordance with the client’s high specification requirements. Owing to the cottages’ location in an environmentally-sensitive area, a modern and specially designed waste treatment system was installed.

Reflecting the local tradition of using and reusing local materials, the stone removed from the original building during demolition works was incorporated into the boundary walls along the rear of the new cottages.
